Prediction and visualization of arsenic-free aquifers in deltaic systems

Develop new knowledge for prediction and visualization of arsenic-free aquifers in deltaic systems for smart selection of arsenic-free aquifers in deltaic systems, with geo-hydrological models and MCP.

Research Questions

1. What geochemical processes in clay plugs are responsible for arsenic release?
2. How can groundwater flow and entrapment in the aquifer domain be modelled, taking into account the geological heterogeneity in the aquifer domain?
3. How can mobile crowd sensing data be utilized to validate and fine-tune the models for robust and low-cost visualization of arsenic contaminated “patches” with Google Maps?

Methodology

1. Construct sedimentary architecture models by data acquisition in a natural laboratory.
2. Laboratory study of the geochemical and diffusion processes of arsenic desorption from its solid state.    3. Dynamic flow model development based on the results of 1 and 2 (linking to SP3).
4. Integrate MCP (SP1) and remote sensing data with the dynamic models to construct actual and dynamic arsenic-contamination maps.
